Too many fashion weeks, too may labels and too many voices. In this creative cacophony, individuality seems to be an underrated and an ignored quality. But that does not seem to be deter Ujjawal Dubey who started his label ANTAR-AGNI with an aim to give his clients a bit of perspective. How does it feel to go back to the times when fashion was simple and not about proving a point? This ease is something that Ujjawal is trying to inject in the Indian fashion scene as well. He made his debut at the Lakme Fashion Week SR 14 and since then there has been no turning back.
As he gears up to make his Amazon India Fashion Week debut, in New Delhi, he talks to us about his inspirations and what intrigues him about menswear in India.
Ujjawal Dubey (UD)
Anupam Dabral (AD)
AD: What intrigues you about menswear?
UD: Menswear is more about style and individuality but with lot of constraints, thats what intrigues me.

AD: In India where there a few menswear designers and bridal often over takes how are you creating a niche for yourself?
UD: A breath of fresh air in our style and simplicity is the constant driver for me although i also believe that there is a big void when it comes to menswear, I’m just trying to bridge the gap between bridal/occasion and casual, aiming at everyday style.
AD: How do you define ‘easy dressing’ for men ?
UD: Comfort is the first factor and the comfort that adds to your character keeps you free and easy.

AD: Your style icons/ inspirations growing up?
UB: Growing up, I was away from the fashion world, but today, everything around me inspires me, be it poetry/ music/ history/ art/ stories and life.
