A few weeks back when Suhani Parekh’s label MISHO unveiled a pair of pebble pods, global jewelry aficionados did not shy away from giving her rave reviews. However, those who are well acquainted with Parekh’s attention to detail and her commitment to smart design will agree that the pods were just a part of her expansive repository of ideas brimming with inspiration. Her latest offering is a seven-piece capsule collection that she recently launched with Bhaane, a label creatively headed by designer Nimish Shah.
Known for its understated, designs, Bhaane has been the go-to label among fashion-forward, urban millennials. Both Misho and Bhaane evoke a sense of effortless, everyday luxury, and one look at the collection will exhibit a seamless sense of synergy between the two designers. Inspired by contemporary architecture, the pieces boast of impeccable construction, exhibiting handmade details. Think mismatched pair of earrings and a choker inspired by the human torso, geometric hoops, and much more.
Pieces that sit at an intersection of art and design have defined Misho’s DNA since its inception in 2016. With her contemporary take on oversized hoops, chainlink necklaces, anklets that can double as bracelets, to sunglass chains Parekh with her sculpted designs has introduced India to a modern narrative. It was while she was training to be a sculptor at Goldsmiths University in London Parekh started making pieces that she felt looked better on the body than they did on a plinth.
Her design experiments strengthed the idea of launching a brand with abstract art as its focus. Since its launch, the brand has garnered global attention from luxury retailers such as Selfridges, Luisa Via Roma, and Farfetch. Besides its legion of fans includes global fashion fixtures such as Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Sonam Kapoor, and Jourdan Dunn.
Bhaane x Misho capsule will be available at Bhaane.com, and in flagship stores across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Parekh gave OnTheRadarMag a complete lowdown on her latest collaboration.
On how did this collaboration come about?
Nimish gave me a call one day over lockdown and invited us to create a little something for Bhaane. Collaborating with Bhaane has been very special for so many reasons. I’ve followed the brand for years (even before I launched Misho), so it’s definitely amazing to have been invited to create a collection for them. I’ve always admired Nimish, not just for his designs but for his impeccable taste, he’s someone whose work I’ve always admired. Sonam has always been a muse and a big part of MISHO’s journey as well so this collaboration has definitely been very exciting.
On MISHO creatively aligning with Bhaane’s street aesthetic?
I absolutely loved collaborating with Nimish. He set out a brief based on Bhaane’s AW edit and really gave me free rein to design. We shared mood boards, sketches, and made tons of video calls! Our inspiration ranged from contemporary culture to mid-century sculpture – Bhaane’s and Nimish’s casual-chic aesthetic was also something I wanted to bring forth in the collection.
On her favourite hero pieces from the collection
It’s too hard to choose just one! It’s a small curated edit and I feel like every piece is a star. The Lounge hoops, the Almost off-duty choker, and the Mismatched earrings are definitely on top of my list.
On the techniques employed in this collection
The pieces were carved in wax and then cast using the technique of lost wax. I love this process – it really allows a lot of room for experimenting.
On the coolest ways in which one can style this collection?
I wanted the pieces to be extremely versatile and easy to style. MISHO’s collection for Bhaane is inspired by daily casual wear and that’s really how the pieces were meant to be worn every day at any occasion! Also my advice – throw a pair of gold hoops or a choker over your outfit and you’ll look on point no matter the season.
