No body juxtaposes casual and couture better than Stefano Pilati. Zegna’s latest show cemented the fact. Pilati’s ability to balance his creative prowess with commercial sustainability makes him one of the most relevant designers of our times. One look at his creations and you will know how far mens wear fashion has come.
The collection –
The colour palate (black, grey, camel, and light blue) defined the dark and decadent mood of the collection. Once again the highlight was Pilati’s knack for superb tailoring and textures.
Some of the classic garments such as shirts, double breasted jackets and jumpers got interesting reinterpretations. Adding character to the entire ensemble were hints of 3d embroidery and ornamental patchwork.
What caught our eye was the creation of silhouettes by layering garments in a monochrome scheme. The quilted jackets under long coats and capes, jumpers under fitted embroidered blazers set an interesting mood to the entire presentation. Though the colour palate lacked bright hues there were hints gorgeous metallic tones on the trousers.
Bringing the formal and the casual together were Pilati’s signature slouchy pleated trousers, paired with knitted jumpers, sweats, fitted bomber jackets, embellished turtlenecks and long coats.
Pilati’s presentation brought two disparate facets of menswear together, sporty with formal. For us what made this collection one of a kind was that it spoke to a much wider group of men who love to dress up, are unapologetic about it and pay attention to details.
