Bharat Sikka’s sense of frame extends well beyond the glossy magazines. Known for his spectacular editorials which have mesmerized fashion aficionados world over, Sikka’s  latest offering is all about finding beauty in a state of political turmoil. His exhibition titled ‘Where the Flowers Still Grow’ is a collection of portraits of Kashmiri men, shot in the unspoiled natural grandeur of the valley. It runs until Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Nature Morte Gallery, New Delhi

What inspired Sikka to explore different aspects of Kashmir was Mirza Waheed’s novel, The Collaborator. The novel narrates a tale of a young Kashmiri man’s struggle with his own sense of self, buffeted by the exigencies of history and the present condition. In 2014 and 2015, Sikka traveled throughout the region clicking pictures,  trying to capture the essence of Kashmir and the turmoil which has marred the state for years. He clicked not only people but also abandoned buildings, dead animals, and every detail which accounted for Kashmir in its true sense.

This showcase brings together different facets of Kashmir which have been clouded by violence and sectarian conflict. But there is still something raw and pure about its beauty, so has been captured by Bharat Sikka.
