Gaurav Jai Gupta loves to leave his audience puzzled. In a sea of cookie cutter images something that stimulates our thought is a welcome change. Gaurav’s latest collection was titled ‘Mumuksha’ which stands for ‘the desire for the attainment for salvation’ pushed us to do the same.
With his androgynous silhouettes, dark and decadent colour palate and luxurious fabrics, Gaurav took us on a journey which did lead into a state of trance if not salvation! Inspired by New Zealand based travel photographer Trey Ratcliff, he presented a collection replete with wearable separates and saris made in zari, cotton, merino wool, a variety of silks (matka, dori and tussar silk) and even stainless steel (we loved that dress made in stainless steel with leather straps)
Styled by Nikhil D, the collection was designed to conjure up the unexplored. It is good to dwell in that medium at times. Adding a character to the ambiance was the music created by Nishant Walimbe.
The collection had a delectable mix of capes, trousers, boxy tops, light weight jackets and saris. What intrigued us was the juxtaposition of different elements in a single look, the stainless steel merino wool pants with merino wool boxy tops, a sari drape with sheer silk blouse, silk pants with quilted silk jackets (the menswear was all the rage).
