Victoria Beckham – FALL 2017 READY-TO-WEAR

There were no fancy musical performances or attention grabbing gigs at Victoria Beckham’s recent Fall showcase in New York. For a change, it was good ol’ fashion in it’s purest form.

The 42-year-old designer who has been a favourite of the luxury retail has graduated from creating feminine sporty outfits to experimenting with the very bold yet restrained (read Savile Row) menswear-inspired silhouettes.

Clean and fuss free are the defining characters of her fashion vocabulary and was evident in her latest show. She paired slightly oversized blazers with chiffon skirts, oversized coats with wide baggy trousers and sporty jumpers with skirts. To balance such strong looks, there were also demure dresses in burgundy and reds. Adding a pinch of British flavour were opera-length gloves and slouchy, knee length leather boots and pointy flats with double buckles. Victoria has had a strong affinity for patterns and this collection was no different. Inspired by an exhibition at Tate, Britain by the surrealist painter Paul Nash, she incorporated pleasant geometric patterns on dresses, blazers and shirts.

While speaking about her design inspirations for fall, Victoria told WWD “I look at what’s happening in the world, and for me, it was not about show pieces. It was about offering my woman really beautiful clothes. The truth is, there has never been a time when it’s been more relevant to empower women.”

Some of the looks that stood out for us were a raspberry turtleneck neck paired with a red chiffon skirt, a long burgundy coat paired with grey wide legged pants, a black high neck with a printed chiffon skirt and elbow length leather gloves.
