She is everything but a couture wearing, Saudi Royal, decked up in jewels. Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, without clinging on to her royal badge has made a headway into the guarded bastions of fashion. In July 2016, Condé Nast International, appointed Princess Deena, Vogue Arabia’s first editor-in-chief. With a plan of performing the balancing act of making Vogue Arabia the ‘It’ zine of its times, making it contextually relevant in her home turf and promoting young burgeoning talent from all over the world, Princess Deena is more than just a front row fixture.

1. Born in California and raised in Saudi Arabia and the USA, Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, grew up soaking in both the cultures. And it had a profound effect on her style as well. This 41-year-old is a mother of three and has been freshly appointed first Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Arabia. Condé Nast has partnered with Dubai-based media company Nervora, and Vogue Arabia is first to be launched as a website. It will be rolled out in print in March 2017.

2.  Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz is known for her members-only boutique D’NA in Riyadh. She started it taking inspiration from London’s elite store, Voyage. Known for stocking fashion forward labels such as Martin Margiela, Marni, The Row and Haider Ackermann, in D’NA, Princess Deena educated her peers in the middle east about a number of interesting labels.

3. She is not a new fledgling in the fashion world. Right from her teenage, she was attending couture shows in Paris with her mother. In an interview last year she told British newspaper, Telegraph about her mother and said “ “She looks like Anouk Aimée and is the quintessential 1970s Yves Saint Laurent woman. We used to go to the couture shows, to Valentino and Chanel. ”

4. Since D’NA’s inception in 2006, Princess Deena was on a look out for fashion labels with strong voices. She was one of the first buyers who backed Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung. London-based Erdem, Roksanda, Osman and Mary Katrantzou also thank her patronage. Princess Deena’s global fashion sensibility at times has an influence on fashion designers. As London-based Mary Katrantzou told British Newspaper, Telegraph “ Deena is one of those truly inspiring women that you meet once in a while, who empowers you with her presence. She has incredible innate style, and I always think of her as the archetypal woman of modern times when I’m designing”.

5. Her sense of style is a strong manifestation of her global aesthetics. From wearing her signature poufy skirts to wearing bold prints and solid silhouettes, Princess Deena is one of the most fashion-forward ladies. Be it adorning a white button shirt with a ball gown skirt or not-so-basic LBD’s with enviable fur coats, her knack to mix streetwear with couture is one of the kind.
