Why was Moschino’s Resort 2017 show a psychedelic dream?

Since Fall 2014 when Jeremy Scott showcased his first collection for Moschino, he has kept the spirit of the brand intact. Moschino’s essence lies in questioning the fashion system via wit, irony and sarcasm. In 1983, Franco Moschino launched the brand with an aim to infuse eccentricity coupled with individualistic form of designs. While purists criticised Moschino for mocking the bourgeois sense of fashion, others considered him to be a rebel. His Chanel jacket interpretation which had ‘Expensive Jacket’ written in gold thread (landed him up in legal trouble) is still considered to be a master piece.

Jeremy Scott is now taking the agenda further. It is not just about mocking fashion anymore but making sense while doing it. Slogan’s and insignias are still used but the brand over the years has been placed in the luxury market as the one which has a playful soul and is certainly everything other than mundane! Jeremy Scott’s recent collection for Moschino Resort 2017 was chock-a-block with cultural references encapsulating Indian mirror work, prints of Indian gods and goddesses with the hints of 60’s Los Angeles.

Moschino’s shows are loaded with drama and so was it’s latest resort presentation. There were inflated artificial flowers as a part of the set and Yayoi Kusama balloon installation. As if clothes were lacking in the drama quotient!.

Moschino shows have a blitzkrieg of hottest faces from the runway and this show wasn’t an exception. From Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio to Hailey Baldwin, the ramp saw some of the hautest celebs saunter in high heels channelling the 60’s hippie vibe.

Jeremy Scott seeks inspiration form an array of sources and the wide variety of cultural hints we get to see in his creations cement the fact. This season was all about 60’s Los Angeles and outfits inspired by the hippie subculture. Those high waisted lace trousers, one piece swimsuits with jackets and kaftan inspired tunics led the way. India also seeped in this stunning chaos. The intricate mirror work of Rajasthan and Kutch along with gods and goddesses painted on the outfits were quiet a view.

Among the highlights of the show were.

Miranda Kerr walking in a sassy mirror work skirt and a jacket. You can imagine that jacket being paired with a number of outfits. A black denim, a sexy shift or a even a floor length maxi dress.

Alessandra Ambrioso conjured up her inner Victoria’s secret angel in that one piece swimsuit with printed with an animated version of Ganesh.

Anna Cleveland was at her best in a short kaftan channelling her inner exotic Parisian hostess. The kaftan seemed like a colourful temple flag with the ashtha-bhuja( the goddess with 8 hands printed on it).
